The Society for the Study of the Short Story hosts an International Conference on the Short Story every two years. Material presented and discussed at these conferences is often compiled and edited into scholar anthologies, published by the Society. The most recent conference was held in New Orleans on July 11-14 in 2002. It was a great success.
